Our Mission

Founded in April of 2021, IBUYCPUMO started as a weekend hobby above the garage. What began a fun way to relax and experiment with electronics has grown into a profitable enterprise with a warehouse, offices, and several employees.

The more involved we got in the tech industry, the more shocked we were by the sheer volume of discarded devices that pile up in landfills or are shipped overseas to pollute foreign environments. So much valuable material and still-functional technology was and continues to be wasted. Given the increased demand for cloud computing, the popularity of crypto mining, the processing requirements of LLMs (AI), and the ever-increasing number of consumer electronics per household e-waste is the fastest growing form of waste worldwide. These electronics contain precious metals like gold, platinum, and copper that can be safely extracted. AND YET, 85% of US E-Waste goes straight to landfills

Even worse, much of the e-waste that is “recycled” is actually shipped overseas were, in countries lacking environmental regulation, dangerous pollutants are dumped into water supplies and the air. From the smelting pits of West Africa and the Congo to tons of toxic sludge dumped daily in China, e-waste is causing massive environmental pollution and very little is being done to address this problem. We do not send any “scrap” material to these nations/regions.

The best solution is to reuse old electronics and components. For example, we found that ~20-35% of CPUs that we pulled from scrap lots were resalable and years away from their EOL (End-of-Life). So not only is much of our e-waste ending up in landfills, but a good portion of that waste doesn’t have to be waste at all. You can trust IBUYCPUMO to ensure your old electronics are safely recycled in a way that doesn’t harm the environment. Help us solve the e-waste crisis!

How we Protect Your Data

While we are not a “certified recycler” we can offer the highest assurance that any and all data containing materials will be destroyed beyond recovery. We purchase large quantities of electronics from other decommissioning companies and have found drives shipments from all three we purchase from. We commonly find companies fail to check optical drives or other removable storage devices and employees of businesses mistakenly leave sensitive material on these devices. Furthermore, removable storage devices often LACK the data security of HDDs and SSDs, making this a significant vulnerability.

All electronics that enter our warehouse are either scraped or refurbished and resold. Those that are scrapped and parted out into sellable components have every piece stripped from them, down to the metal chassis. Drives are set aside in a designated container for destruction.

If we believe the device has resellable value, we will inspect and evaluate all aspects of the unit when the device enters our facility. Any HDDs or SSDs will be removed in addition to removable storage devices such as CDs, floppy disks, and USB devices.

We will inspect areas where drives/storage devices are found again before reselling, removing any and all data containing devices that could have been missed the first time, placing them into a container for destruction.

All data containing material is shredded daily and stored locked inside our facility until our metal scrap dumpster is full. It is then mixed with other metal scrap and sent to be melted. Our entire facility and parking lot is covered by cameras. All external and internal doors are locked, the warehouse is only accessible by employees.

*Government entities, Healthcare facilities, and Finacial Institutions are recommended to have their HDDs degaussed. Degaussing is not recommended or economical for most businesses or consumers.
